Some of a wonders of Alpha are suggested in a new trailer for Luc Besson’s space opera, “Valerian and a City of a Thousand Planets.”
“Welcome to Alpha — a city of a thousand planets,” a voiceover says in a trailer, expelled Wednesday morning, “where for hundred of years, each class has common their knowledge, their intelligence. It’s paradise.”
But all that is about to change. Dane DeHaan, as a pretension impression and his partner played by Cara Delevingne are tasked to save a land from an different force. The new footage also shows a split-second glance of Rihanna’s character, Bubble, a shapeshifting entertainer.
Clive Owen, Kris Wu, John Goodman and Ethan Hawke turn out a film’s core cast. Besson has been building a plan — that carries a $180 million cost tab — for decades. It’s formed on a Valerian and Laureline comics published by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967.
Besson has pronounced in a past that he scrapped an early breeze of a book for “Valerian” after saying “Avatar.” “[James Cameron] set a bar so high, we had to rethink,” he said. “It was not large enough, it was not good enough.”
The film was touted as a blockbuster during STX’s second-ever display during CinemaCon on Tuesday.
STX is scheduled to recover “Valerian” on Jul 21. Watch a new trailer below:
